In my first Self portrait I tried to think of ways in which I could portray my personality through the picture, but Its pretty hard to show anything other than basic emotion from the position of your shoulders.
Not much of the personality seems to come through. I tried a couple pictures with a little bit of facial hair showing ( my though was in many cultures particularly middle eastern that a man is not considered a man unless he has a beard and I was going to show my lack of ability to grow one kind of as a joke)
Though I tried to portray something, I think I failed, other than to say I have a clean cut hairstyle which does say something about being either conservative or into sports, though neither really fits too well.
I was talking to one of the girls in the class and we both came up with this, men are pretty boring from behind. Most have very similar haircuts, a lot of conformity, especially after college when they are pretty much forced into a particular dress code.
Another thing I wanted to talk about was when I was in the Navy there was a girl, former Marine who had switched services to join the nuclear engineering field, when she got over she was ordered to grow her hair out (she had a full buzz cut) or face disciplinary measures, partially because she looked a lot like a guy in uniform.
I'll probably be able to do more with the next few Self portraits.
